TOP 10 INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS FOR 2024

Here are our predictions for the TOP 10 Interior Design trends for 2024.

10 Interior Design Trends for 2024

It’s big, it’s bold, but it’s also functional! Let's dive into 10 trends we believe are going to be a hit this year!

1 Stone Magic

In the past few years natural stone has been on the rise, from bold Italian marble backsplashes to deep beautiful vanities.

In 2024, designers will take natural marble to a whole new level by mixing various types of marble to create intricate patterns on floors, walls, and even furniture. This unique approach adds a touch of luxury and elegance to any room.

Tip: Most local suppliers in Canada have not caught onto this trend yet, so you will need to either create it as custom or source internationally. Wayfair has some good options for this.

2 COLOUR POP!

While minimalism has had its moment in the spotlight, maximalism is here. No longer is the term ‘less is more’ an ideology for architects and designers to live by. More is more! - Bold, vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and an eclectic mix of furnishings will be on-trend. Don't be afraid to experiment with eye-catching hues and patterns, and inject a burst of energy into your space.

Tip: If you’re scared to make a statement in millwork or finishes, do it with furniture!

3 STATEMENT FURNITURE

Making a bold statement in your home is more than just materials and finishes. Bold and daring shapes can create this impact through furniture.

Furniture can make or break a room. This huge trend in custom furniture including coffee and dining tables and chairs is repositioning the furniture as an art piece.

TIP: If you have the space, create some drama by setting your sofa a nice distance from the walls, giving it more prominence in the space.

4 Workspaces for the fam

We’ve accepted that the concept of remote work is here to stay, and more people are dedicating space in their homes for efficient and stylish home offices. Whilst this is great (and necessary) for adults, we also see more dedicated spaces for kids to the their homework making their debut. Expect to see creative and functional home office designs that promote productivity and comfort.

TIP: Kids don’t need a lot of space for a cozy reading nook. Under stairs or below windows are great spots for a bench or small desk!

5 CURVES DON’T LIE

Arches, both structural and decorative, are continuing to take center stage in residential interior design because they add a sense of elegance and timelessness to any space. From doorways and windows to furniture and decor, arches and curves will continue to be a key design element in 2024. Expect to see curved walls too!

6 THE NEXT DIMENSION

In 2024, textures will be used creatively to add depth and dimension to interiors. Think about layering different materials, such as velvet, bouclé, and leather can help create a tactile and visually interesting space. Consider using clay bricks for a partition, or a fluting detail across your living room. Adding texture and dimension, combined with good lighting will enhance the experiential value of any space!

7 TRANSitions

In 2024 everything is dramatic, including walking from one room to another. We predict you will see lots of bold, featured transitions, whether made from a Calacatta Verde marble or curved wood, expect to see this trend stand out.

Tip: Use millwork to accentuate depth to the transitions. If the overall ceilings are 9-10' feet, the height of the opening is ideal at 7.5 feet. You lose the effect if the opening is too high.

8 MOODY KITCHENS

Step into the shadows with dark and moody kitchens, a stark departure from conventional bright spaces. Darker wooden cabinets, accompanied with textures with statement, but neutral stone creating an intimate, timeless and sophisticated atmosphere in your culinary haven.

Tip: Check alternatives to natural stone, such as porcelain or quartz. They can be made to look natural and are much more durable (and affordable)

9 MICRO CEMENT

Microcement emerges as a revolutionary trend in interior design with its seamless, japandi allure. This versatile material, a blend of cement, polymers, and resins, is not only visually stunning but also remarkably practical. Microcement effortlessly spans across floors, walls, and even countertops, creating a unified, minimalist aesthetic that resonates with modern sensibilities.

TIP: Great for bathrooms and for use on all surfaces.

10 MIRRORed FUN

Interiors gets whimsical with fun-shaped mirrors, injecting a playful and eclectic vibe into homes. Departing from the conventional rectangular or circular forms, these mirrors come in an array of imaginative shapes, from geometric wonders to nature-inspired silhouettes. Whether it's a sunburst, hexagon, or even a cloud-shaped mirror, these reflective accents become captivating focal points in any room. The fun-shaped mirror trend encourages a sense of individuality and creativity, allowing homeowners to infuse their spaces with a touch of personal flair.
